International Society of Radiology mourns the death of Richard L. Baron, outstanding radiologist, researcher and educator and member of the ISR Executive Committee who suddenly passed away last week.

Dr. Baron has been the recipient of numerous awards for his research, focused especially on liver imaging, including the Hounsfield Award from the Society of Computed Body Tomography and Magnetic Resonance and The Roscoe E. Miller Award from the Society of Gastrointestinal Radiologists.

He has served as an associate editor for Radiology and for Liver Transplantation and served in leadership roles for multiple national radiology societies, including serving as president of the Society of Computed Body Tomography/Magnetic Resonance and the Society of Gastrointestinal Radiologists and on the board of directors of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), the American Roentgen Ray Society and the ISR.

He was hugely popular, respected, and loved throughout the world and several radiological organisations had bestowed upon him honorary memberships and fellowships and Gold Medals (European Society of Radiology, European Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology, Asian Oceanian Society of Radiology, Sociedad Española de Radiología , Sociedad Chilena de Radiologia, Sociedad Argentina de Radiologia/Faardit).

He will be greatly missed.
