ISR President Dr. Donoso co-chaired a EuroSafe Imaging session on “Improving radiation protection in medical imaging in low- and middle-income countries: past actions and future directions” together with IOMP President Dr. Madan Rehani

The international professional societies have the mandate and responsibilities to extend outreach to low and middle-income (LMI) countries. In this respect, both the International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP) and ISR join hands to assess and improve the situation of radiation protection in medical applications of radiation.

The session involved important stakeholders like the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), World Health Organization (WHO) and representative of an important region: Africa. The session deliberated not only on actions taken, results achieved, but also on a vision for the future.

The ISR view was presented by Dr. Guy Frija, ISRQSA Co-Chair who introduced the ISR concept note about the role of radiology in global public health agenda.

Dr. Maria Perez from the WHO Department of Public Health, Environment and Social Determinants of Health summarised WHO's views on the importance of safety and quality in medical imaging for globally advancing patient care and working towards achieving universal health coverage.
