On November 8, the international radiology community celebrates the International Day of Radiology (IDoR), recognizing the essential contribution of medical imaging to modern healthcare and the vital role of radiologists, radiographers, and imaging professionals in patient care.
Held annually on the anniversary of Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen’s discovery of X-rays in 1895, IDoR provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the value of medical imaging in earlier diagnosis, treatment planning, disease monitoring, and improved patient outcomes.
Medical imaging is fundamental to healthcare worldwide, yet access to imaging services and trained professionals remains uneven. IDoR also offers an opportunity to reflect on the importance of education, research, innovation, and international collaboration in ensuring that the benefits of radiology reach patients everywhere.
The International Society of Radiology joins colleagues and member societies around the world in celebrating this day and recognizing the professionals whose expertise advances imaging, strengthens healthcare systems, and improves lives.
Join the global celebration! Member societies, imaging departments, and professionals are encouraged to share their IDoR activities, celebrations, and stories highlighting the impact of radiology in their communities.
