The International Society of Radiology is pleased to share that ISR President Dr. Bibb Allen has been appointed as a member of the World Health Organization’s Strategic and Technical Advisory Group on Medical Devices (STAG MEDEV) for the September 2025 – September 2027 term.
STAG MEDEV provides independent advice to WHO on policies and strategies related to medical devices, supporting efforts to strengthen access, quality, and safety of technologies essential for global health.
Dr. Allen’s experience includes more than a decade on the ISR Executive Committee, past president and board chair of the American College of Radiology (ACR), and contributions as Chief Medical Officer of the ACR Data Science Institute. His appointment reflects his long-standing work at the intersection of radiology, health policy, and global health, and underscores the importance of medical imaging within the broader health-technology landscape.
This perspective will be critical to implementing the WHO’s World Health Assembly resolution on Strengthening Medical Imaging Capacity (adopted May 2025), which calls for expanding imaging access, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and includes procurement of right sized imaging equipment tailored to the needs of the local population.
